In my last post, I talked about Jiuzhaigou Valley. If you go to Jiuzhaigou Valley, you want to continue to Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is known for its natural beauty. To me, no words can describe how beautiful it is.
So, how do you get there? Huanglong is located in the northwest of Sichuan Province. Just like going to Jiuzhaigou Valley, you can fly from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou-Huanglong Airport, and then take a tour bus or taxi to Huanglong. You may also take the bus from Chengdu to Huanglong.
What will you see? Huanglong is world famous for its scenic landscape. The 2.2-mile Huanglong Valley winds through the virgin forests and mountains like a dragon. Huanglong means “Yellow Dragon”. It is named after a dragon because it has a winding shape like one. Along the valley, you will see multicolored ponds, waterfalls, hot springs, caves, and temples. If you like hiking, you may use the trails and wooden boardwalk. The round trip takes about 4 hours. If the 4-hour hiking is too long for you, you may use the cable car, which will take you from the entrance to almost the top of the valley. Then you can walk down the valley back to the entrance. If you are able to hike, you don’t want to take the cable car because you don’t want to miss seeing all the gorgeous sites up close. You’ll want to take hundreds of pictures to remember the beauty of Huanglong.
Besides the beautiful scenery, you will also see animals and birds. Huanglong has endangered animals such as the giant panda, lesser panda and Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey.
